1 About the project HEY PEOPLE
HEY PEOPLE! is a project with a main objective to battle the gender stereotypes prevalent in online spaces that negatively influence young people’s professional careers. Social media often reinforces these stereotypes, and we believe it is important that we increase the awareness about this and counter assumptions. By stimulating young people’s creativity, we help them counter the negative expectations for themselves, altering the harmful images created by social media. We provide a safe environment to facilitate young people’s discourse around this issue to help them tackle gender stereotypes in job recruitment. The project is co-financed by the CERV Programme of the EU.
2 Description of the online challenge
The HEY PEOPLE! Online challenge requires creation of alternative storytelling to propose different representations of gender roles in the labour market. The creators will be working either individually or in groups of two. Each participant (either individual or group of two) can participate by uploading a thematic video to their own social media profile (in Instagram, TikTok or YouTube) – the theme being “Challenge gender stereotypes in the labour market”, to specific online platforms and ensuring adherence to the respective platform’s terms and conditions, as well as use respectful and inclusive language and imagery.
Once the videos are uploaded there will be a set period for voting (through likes of the uploaded video); the top 10 most liked videos from each country will be reviewed by a jury chosen by the project partners and a winner will be announced – one from each participating country and one winner overall. The winner will receive a prize, described in this Online Challenge Rules document.
